The Zac Brown Tribute Band 20 RIDE is the headliner at the City of Greer Freedom Blast scheduled June 28, 6-10:15 p.m. at Greer City Park.
Greer Idol and Idol Teen will begin its first competition with contestants singing patriotic songs.
The salute to active and retired military veterans precedes the 15-minute fireworks extravaganza, at 10 p.m. by the internationally-renown Zambelli Fireworks Company.
Military vehicles, modern to vintage World War II and a U.S. Marine Corps uniform display will exhibit vintage uniforms and accessories of the services’ industry. A M1 Abrams tank will be on display.
New this year will be a rib-eating contest. City officials liked the idea of a messier contest that guarantees hands and faces to be covered with sticky sauce versus the previous year’s face-full of cherry pie.
An eagle mascot will pose for photos in the lobby at City Hall from 6-8:45 p.m. One hundred stuffed toy eagles are being sold for $10, numbered and tagged, by the Disabled American Veterans Greer Chapter 39 as a fundraiser.
20 RIDE, a Charlotte-based band, will play an assortment of Zac Brown’s playlist including “Chicken Fried”, “Colder Weather”, “Free”, “Toes” and “Highway 20 Ride”, where the band took its name.
