A $13.4 million, 414,534 square foot BMW Manufacturing Co. warehouse is being constructed at the Greer Inland Port. The size is the equivalent to four Wal-Mart SuperStores.
The warehouse will be used for the Greer-produced BMW vehicles to be prepared as kits for as many as three to a rail container for shipment overseas. The containers will be shipped to the Port of Charleston for export.
The South Carolina State Ports Authority (SCSPA) board of directors today approved an additional $12.9 million to pay its share of the escalating cost of the Inland Port at Greer, now estimated as high as $47.4 million.
The SCSPA share will top out at $39.9 million while Norfolk Southern’s cost remains fixed at $7.5 million. The design for the inland port is beyond 90 percent completion.
The South Carolina Ports Authority is hiring for the Inland Port scheduled to open this fall in Greer. Grading and site preparation is underway.
Positions posted for hire are container handler operators and operations coordinator/yard planner.
