Greer’s BMW Manufacturing plant has reached another milestone in the history of the company’s only North American manufacturing facility – 2.5 million vehicles produced in the plant’s nearly 20-year history.
Vehicle number 2,500,000 was a Mineral White Metallic BMW X5 xDrive50i with Terra Dakota Leather and M Sport Package. The X5 is destined for BMW of San Antonio in San Antonio, Tex.
BMW announced its highest ever sales for August with 139,648 vehicles, a 14.8 percent increase, worldwide and one million sold for the first time in the first eight months.
Overall, worldwide sales year-to-date also reached an all-time high with more than 1.2 million vehicles sold, an increase of 7.7 percent over the same period in 2012 (1.1 million).
BMW Manufacturing Co. in Greer it will relocate its export operation, currently in Duncan, to a new building being developed adjacent to the new South Carolina Inland Port (SCIP) in Greer.
