The launch of the fourth campaign for The Partnership for Tomorrow was presented with a warning.
“Folks we find ourselves at a critical crossroads at being mediocre or great,” Mayor Rick Danner told a gathering of contributors. “How far we’ve come in the last 15 years, it doesn’t hold one-tenth of where we will be in the next 10-15 years.”
Demand for Greer manufactured BMW vehicles X3, X5 and X6 helped BMW Group to sell more than a million vehicles in the first half of 2014, more than ever before in the first six months of the year.
A total of 1,020,211 vehicles were delivered to customers worldwide, an increase of 6.9 percent over the same period last year (954,501). There were 99,268 Greer produced vehicles delivered to worldwide customers in the first six months.
Greer and San Luis Potosi, Mexico are now BMW neighbors.
BMW announced today it is building a $1 billion manufacturing plant in Mexico that will employ about 1,500 people and begin production in 2019. Vehicle models were not announced.
The BMW X3 and X5, manufactured in Greer, showed gains in year-to-date sales while the X6 sales fell, according to BMW Group figures reported Tuesday.
The BMW Group in the United States reported June sales of 35,577 vehicles, an increase of 5.7 percent from the 33,645 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, the BMW Group is up 5.1 percent on sales of 181,534 in the first half of 2014 compared to 172,787 in the same period in 2013.
