Donald Trump will make his first visit to the Upstate since announcing he will run for president.
Trump, who leads polls for the Republican party, will speak to the Upstate Chamber Coalition’s Presidential Series on Aug. 27 at noon.
Incumbent Jeff Howell will seek another term as Greer Commissioner of Public Works after filing for the Nov. 3 Greer General Election Friday afternoon. Filing for the election closes at noon on Aug. 17.
Greer City Council district seats one, three and five as well as the at-large Mayor and Commissioner of Public Works offices will be on the ballot. All are four-year terms with the exception of the six-year CPW office.
Incumbent Rick Danner filed his intent today to run for a fifth term as the city of Greer mayor.
Danner is vice president of development and community relations at Greer State Bank.
On a hot, steamy day in Columbia, the Confederate flag left the South Carolina State House grounds after five decades.
“It is a new day in South Carolina, a day we can all be proud of, a day that truly brings us all together as we continue to heal, as one people and one state,” Gov. Nikki Haley said in a Facebook post. She did not speak at the ceremony, which attracted thousands.
