Skip Davenport said D&D Ford will be moved into its new showroom at 13645 E. Wade Hampton Blvd. on Oct. 1. “We had a meeting that makes October 1 the date we will be moved into our new showroom,” Davenport said. “Everything is in line for us to make the move on that date.”

D&D Ford, a three-generation business, will celebrate its 75th anniversary as an automobile dealer in Greer in October. The $7 million state-of-the-art showroom and service facility will be 36,642 square feet and located on 6.19 acres of land.

“We going to move very quickly,” Davenport said. “We will close our service department at 2 o’clock Saturday and open the following Monday at 8 a.m. We will have haulers move all the cars on that Sunday to our new location.” Davenport said there might be more of a transition with the business office. “I don’t know if we will move that at the same time or a little later.”

As the pace quickens with an approaching deadline Davenport said he can visualize the move being completed. “It’s sort of like the Olympics, you see the finish line and you’re pushing through to get there,” he said with a laugh.

Quick Lane Tire and Auto Service Center, has opened last month in front of D&D’s new dealership. It is a new entity owned by Davenport but not affiliated with the automobile dealership. “Our mechanics are trained to service any make of car or truck,” Davenport said. The service center uses brand parts and tires.

Dan Davenport and Earl Duncan founded D&D Ford in 1937 and originally located it in Greer’s historic downtown. D&D Ford was moved to its present location on Wade Hampton Blvd. as one of the original businesses to locate on Highway 29 in Greer.
