Skip Davenport, president and general manager of D&D Motors, presents a $10,000 donation to Nancy Webb, vice chair board of directors for Daily Bread Ministries.

Norm West described the philanthropy of Skip Davenport as “one of the most generous men in Greer.” The occasion Thursday was Davenport presenting a $10,000 gift to Daily Bread Ministries.

“Having something to eat is as basic as you can get,” Davenport said. “We, as a company, know what a great job Daily Bread Ministries is doing.”

The gift will go toward STEP (Shelter to Empower People), an initiative to build a four-unit homeless rehabilitation shelter located behind the Greer Soup Kitchen. Groundbreaking is Oct. 1.

The Davenport family has been benefactors to the Greer community for generations. “Sometimes it’s easier to give a check. People need to do what they can do,” Davenport said.

West is construction project manager for STEP. “GCM would not be as successful if not for Skip and his family,” West said.
