Filing for city elections closed, only incumbents on ballot
Filing for the city election is closed with all incumbents seeking to retain their seats that expire on Dec. 31.

No opposition has been filed for either of the five expiring terms including mayor, three city council members and one commissioner for Greer CPW.

Filing closed on Monday and a 14-day write-in window ends at the close of business on Monday, Aug. 31.

“Right now I’m not planning on holding a city election,” Municipal Clerk Tammy Duncan said. The city general election is scheduled Nov. 3.

If no write-ins file, Duncan will ask that the election be certified and the incumbents will be declared the winners.

Since terms for all officials end on Dec. 31, the swearing in would likely occur at the first city council meeting in 2016.

Incumbents who are seeking another term are:

Mayor Rick Danner, four years

Jay Arrowood, City Council District One, four years

Kimberly Bookert, City Council District Three, four years

Wryley Bettis, City Council District Five, four years

Jeff Howell, Greer Commissioner of Public Works, six years
