Here's the facts. Kody Young, who never sang in public before Greer Idol auditions in May, won the 2103 Greer Teen Idol competition over a friend who encouraged him to enter. The result was a $500 winner's check – an average of $125 per appearance.
Hard to imagine Kody Young’s first time in a competition – or even singing publicly – he received $500.
That’s exactly what Young earned Friday night when he swept to the 2013 Greer Teen Idol finals and took home the first place check.
The judges even marked in last week’s semifinals the poise and voice he exhibited. “It’s amazing at such a young age you can get up on the stage and do what you do,” said one judge. “You’re so powerful on some notes. Keep it there,” said another.
His friend Sophia Noyes, who also auditioned for Teen Idol this year, and her father, encouraged Kody to audition. Four public appearances later he was crowned the best of 26 other teens that began the journey to Friday night’s finals in front of a huge crowd at the City of Greer Amphitheater.
Kody, an 8th grader, has a twin sister and four brothers and is homeschooled. He attends New Spring Church and serves in the 4- and 5-year class.
One judge told Kody, “You just smile and you will win the ladies’ hearts.” He did plenty of smiling Friday and his singing was judged the best of them all.
