Sen. Tim Scott posed for a picture with World War II veteran Cliff Harpst when Scott visited Greer last year to introduce a veterans job program.
Harpst has become a celebrity in Greer since he arrived. The World War II veteran runs errands for downtown merchants, has a sandwich named for him at the Stomping Grounds on Trade Street, and has worked annually at the Waffle House – only on Christmas Day to allow staff to spend time with their families.
Harpst was also the best man at Stomping Grounds owner Lisa and Grey Garland's wedding.
Mark Owens, Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, provided the video below:
Interview with Upstate World War II veteran Cliff HarpstI had the honor of sitting down with one of South Carolina's World War II veterans, Mr. Cliff Harpst, in Greenville to learn about his service. Wanted to share some of our time together today, and say #ThankYou to Cliff and all of South Carolina's veterans for their amazing service. #VeteransDay
