World's 'grand challenges' come into focus for engineer students

Betty Templeton receives SCPTA award from Clifford Fullmore, SCPTA president.

Betty Templeton, curriculum resource teacher at Riverside High School, and Susan Mayberry, math teacher at Riverside, have been honored by the South Carolina PTA.

Templeton was named Support Staff Person of the Year, and Mayberry was name Support Teacher of the Year.

Riverside High School band program recognized for excellence

Riverside High School Orchestra

The Riverside High School Orchestra scored the highest rating of "Superior," performing grade V-VI music at the recent South Carolina Band Directors Association's Concert Festival.

The PRIDE of Riverside Winterguard and Indoor Percussion Ensemble competed in the CIPA Contest at Laurens High School on March 14 and took 3rd place in their respective classes.

Four Riverside High School seniors have been named finalists in the University of South Carolina Writing Contest.

Abigail Fourspring, Nathan Minsk, Annika Imai and Sarah Saddoris will be published in the USC Press young writers anthology and will compete March 14 to determine overall state winners.

Riverside rules state speech and debate championships

Riverside High School dominated the state speech and debate competition in Class 4A. RHS won overall and class titles, 8 individual championships and earned 30 individual awards overall.
 

The Riverside Speech and Debate Team concluded its undefeated season with a fourth consecutive state championship at Berkeley High School on Saturday.

Riverside earned the overall and Class 4A championships, two separate titles.

Makeup school days announced for Greenville County

Greenville County public school students will make up their first missed school day on Monday, March 9 and will make up two more days on Monday, April 6 and Friday, June 5.

State law requires school districts to include three makeup days in their calendar and specifies that additional missed days must be made up by scheduling attendance days including Saturdays and/or extending school days.

Lowes Foods will build grocery store at Riverside Commons

Lowes Foods will build its newest concept grocery store at Riverside Commons. The

Lowes Foods will be anchoring its first grocery store in the Upstate at Riverside Commons, across from Riverside High School, GreerToday.com has learned.

The new concept store, to be built at the corner of Hammett Bridge Road and Suber Road, will be 42,500 square feet and employ about 100. Tentative opening is spring 2016.
