The Greer Inland Port handled 7,303 rail moves in July, reported the South Carolina Ports Authority. With 56,875 rail moves calendar year to date, the facility's volumes remain on track to reach 100,000 moves in 2016.
The SCPA has allocated $2.2 million to expand the Inland Port at Greer in fiscal year 2017 and 2018.
Greer will celebrate its railroad heritage and promote rail safety on Sept. 10 at City Park with the inaugural Railfest from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Free activities and entertainment are planned for all ages and guests will have an opportunity to win trips on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City, N.C.
