The soft opening for Chon Thai Restaurant has been short-lived.

Doh King, owner of downtown Greer’s first Thai food restaurant, has opened for lunch and dinner at 219 Trade Street.

“We’ve had a lot of people come by and say they love Thai food,” King said. “We’re looking forward to customers visiting us.”

King wanted about a week to establish the menu and set up the décor in a second dining room. The soft opening lasted three days for the 70-seat restaurant.

Chon features dine-in and take-out.

But her trademark curry sauce was mastered well before Chon’s opening. She has owned Thai restaurants in the past.

“Curry sauce can have a kick to it,” King said. “Some people like it more spicy than others.”

The appetizers, soups, salads and entrees all have Thai flavoring and/or different levels of curry. Chon features traditional Thai cuisine specials featuring salmon, duck, seafood and catfish.

Beer and wine will be served when the restaurant receives its ABC license.

King said the restaurant is still hiring staff. Call the restaurant for more information.
