Teachers can use a little help from the community
Great classrooms don’t happen by accident. Teachers across the country work hard to build vibrant, energizing learning environments for their students, which often means everything from microscopes to pipe cleaners, graphic novels to oboes, class pets to field trips and much more. As a result, teachers spend more than $1 billion from their own pockets each year on supplies.
Hollis Crosby gained 370 yards of total offense and accounted for 14 of Greer’s points to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 28-7 win over Blue Ridge Friday night.
Greer finished its regular season with a 3-7 overall record and 2-3 in Region II-4A and Blue Ridge finished 3-7 and 1-4 in the region.
Eastside scored two fourth quarter touchdowns for a 35-28 comeback victory over Greer Thursday night at Dooley Field.
Greer fell to 2-8 with one game remaining at Blue Ridge next week. It’s the worst record for Greer since it went 3-8 in 1971. Greer was 2-7 in 1990 with a nine-game schedule.
Mauldin scored the final 10 points in the fourth quarter to beat Greer, 24-14, in a high school football game Friday night at Dooley Field.
Greer is 1-3 and plays at Union County next Friday.

Spartanburg scored all its points in the first half and held off Greer in the second to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 20-12.
The Miss South Carolina Pageant will be held on Saturday, June 29, 8 p.m. at the Township Auditorium in Columbia. The winner will receive a $60,000 scholarship and compete at the Miss America pageant.
Sara Hamrick is Miss Greater Greer, Levi Thompson is Miss Greater Greer Teen, Allison Yeater is Miss North Greenville and Carson Hannon is Miss Greer High School.
The Greer Virtual Enterprise class won the South Carolina State Business Plan Competition for the fourth consecutive year.
The team practiced many hours outside of school perfecting their business presentation. The team also practiced their presentations in classes.
Eastside beat Greer 72-9 in a Region II AAAA dual wrestling match Wednesday night at Eastside High School.
The Eagles won all its matches by pins. Greer’s points were recorded when Eastside forfeited at 138 and the Yellow Jackets earned one decision.
Greer High School wide receiver Braxton Collins was among Wednesday’s high school athletes signing during college football’s early signing period.
Collins will play for Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Va.), which competes in Conference USA.

Myrtle Beach all but ended Greer’s Class 4A state championship hopes during a decisive third quarter Friday afternoon in front of 12,265 people at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
Greer will play Myrtle Beach Friday at 1 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium in the Class AAAA championship game.
The possibility of snow or ice Saturday forced The South Carolina High School League to announced Tuesday that championship games scheduled for Saturday will be played on Friday.

The toughest year of Travis Perry's life is coming to a close, but not without some reasons to celebrate.
Dre Williams scored on a one-yard run with 6:15 left in the game to lead Greer to a 6-3 victory over Ridge View in the quarterfinals of the state AAAA quarterfinals Friday night at Dooley Field.
The game was played in rain with temperatures in the high 30’s.

Williams ran for 327 yards and scored four touchdowns as Greer eliminated York, 63-40, Friday night at Dooley Field.

It was Greer’s first shutout this season for the Yellow Jackets and sets up a region championship game next Friday night at Eastside. Both teams are 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the region. The Yellow Jackets have won seven consecutive games.
The Greer Yellow Jackets flexed their muscle Friday night with a 58-6 victory over Travelers Rest at Chico Boling Stadium.
It took Dre Williams 4 minutes, 14 seconds to score two touchdowns – 62 yard run and a 72-yard punt return – to outscore TR.
Greer ended its non-region schedule Thursday night by defeating Union County, 42-7, at Dooley Field. The game was played one night earlier because of the threat of Hurricane Florence bringing hefty winds and heavy rains.
Greer finished its non-region schedule with a 4-1 record. The Yellow Jackets have an open date Sept. 21 and begins region play at Greenville on Sept .28.
