Nominees must have graduated from Greer High a minimum of five years before becoming eligible. Criteria are based on athletic accomplishments as a high school student.

Troy Pride signed with the Carolina Panthers for a reported $4.07 million, four-year deal that includes a $777,000 signing bonus.
 

Greer native and former Greer High School standout Troy Pride signed his contract with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League.

Pride, a fourth-round pick and 113th overall, signed a reported $4.07 million, four-year deal that includes a $777,000 signing bonus.

SCHSL short fall season remains; Lexington vote deferred

The South Carolina High School League Appellate Panel deferred a vote on the Lexington District 1 proposal until Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. The two-part plan is to adjust traditional high school sports seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SCHSL officials and high school coaches and athletic directors reportedly asked for more information and time to study the proposal. COVID-19 cases and deaths are spiking in South Carolina, designated a hot spot for the coronavirus. The delay offers high risk sports like football an alternative for a spring season under the Lexington plan.

Troy Pride is 4th round pick for Panthers

Troy Pride, Jr. is fourth round pick for Carolina Panthers in the 2020 NFL Draft.
 

Former Greer High School standout and Notre Dame star safety Troy Pride, Jr., has been drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Pride brings speed, youth and his aggressive style of playing defense to the Panthers.  Carolina has been focusing on defense in the draft.

Erie Williams, a long-time assistant coach at crosstown rival Greer, is the new Head Football Coach at Riverside High School.

Crosby has career night, leads Greer past Blue Ridge

Hollis Crosby gained 370 yards of total offense and accounted for 14 of Greer’s points to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 28-7 win over Blue Ridge Friday night.

Greer finished its regular season with a 3-7 overall record and 2-3 in Region II-4A and Blue Ridge finished 3-7 and 1-4 in the region.

Eastside turns back Greer in big Region game

Eastside scored two fourth quarter touchdowns for a 35-28 comeback victory over Greer Thursday night at Dooley Field.

Greer fell to 2-8 with one game remaining at Blue Ridge next week. It’s the worst record for Greer since it went 3-8 in 1971. Greer was 2-7 in 1990 with a nine-game schedule.

The Miss South Carolina Pageant will be held on Saturday, June 29, 8 p.m. at the Township Auditorium in Columbia. The winner will receive a $60,000 scholarship and compete at the Miss America pageant.

Sara Hamrick is Miss Greater Greer, Levi Thompson is Miss Greater Greer Teen, Allison Yeater is Miss North Greenville and Carson Hannon is Miss Greer High School.

The Greer Virtual Enterprise class won the South Carolina State Business Plan Competition for the fourth consecutive year.

Eastside beat Greer 72-9 in a Region II AAAA dual wrestling match Wednesday night at Eastside High School.

The Eagles won all its matches by pins. Greer’s points were recorded when Eastside forfeited at 138 and the Yellow Jackets earned one decision.

Dre Williams scored on a one-yard run with 6:15 left in the game to lead Greer to a 6-3 victory over Ridge View in the quarterfinals of the state AAAA quarterfinals Friday night at Dooley Field.

The game was played in rain with temperatures in the high 30’s.
