Phase II of Suber Commons is being developed. Five Guys will occupy 2,900-square-feet of the 8,000-square-feet Phase II.
“Five Guys in Greer will be slightly larger, 2,900-square-feet, than our prototype. There will be 20-25 jobs available and we’re looking at opening in about six months,” Molly Brown Catalano, spokesperson for Five Guys, told GreerToday.com. A typical Five Guys occupies 2,500-square-feet.
It is the fourth Five Guys in the greater Greer area – Pelham, Haywood Mall and Cherrydale. “It (upstate) is one of the best areas of franchising Five Guys in South Carolina,” Catalano said.
The restaurant will face IHOP and anchor a second suite of businesses in an 8,000-square-foot strip mall. Developers are offering the remaining 5,000 square feet as one or two suites.
“The attraction of restaurant and retail projects is directly correlated to current and projected residential growth,” said Allen Smith, President/CFO of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. “The addition of rooftops, in most cases, leads to growth in the restaurant and retail sectors. Given our residential growth, I fully expect this momentum to continue.”
Five Guys has been shopping for a Greer site on Wade Hampton Blvd. for nearly two years. A team of employees first looked at Greer Plaza in late 2012 but decided to build on the same side of Wade Hampton Blvd. as Kohl’s, which is scheduled to open in September.
There’s no mystery to the Five Guys menu – handmade juicy hamburgers, hot dogs, mini burgers and grilled cheese or veggie sandwiches. Free toppings include grilled mushrooms, green peppers and jalapenos.
Five Guys has more than 1,500 units worldwide.
