Free flu shots are available at two Greer sites and at Duncan next week.

These flu shots are for adults only and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please dress appropriately so that your upper arm is easily accessible to the person administering the shot.

Flu shots will be available at no cost on the following dates:

• Monday, Oct. 12, 4-7 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church

• Tuesday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. – noon at Duncan Community Center

• Thursday, Oct. 15, 7-9 a.m., at Greer Memorial Hospital

 No registration is required.

People diagnosed with chronic diseases like asthma, diabetes, chronic lung disease, pregnant women and people age 65 and older are at a higher risk of being infected and should make the vaccinations a top priority, according to the Greenville Health System.

Other steps to reduce illness this cold and flu season include:

• Washing hands often and keep them away from your face

• Avoid close contact with people who have flu symptoms

• Prevent the spread of illness to others by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing

• If you’re sick, stay home from work or school at least 24 hours after your fever breaks.
