The 2011 Greer Idol runnerup, a singer headed to Broadway and a bio science major at Coastal Carolina University were among the talent at Greer Idol 6 auditions today at the Greer Family Fest.

Three of the 20 people auditioned were not given gold callback letters. That means 43 callbacks will be held May 14 at The Davenport. Only five people were not voted forward by the judges.

Doug Allen, last year’s runnerup, said he missed the competition. “I was so disappointed when it was all over last year,” Allen said. Allen works on the night shift at BMW and has his supervisor’s approval to attend Idol competitions.

John Garrison, a graduate of Greer High School, was asked by the judges if he ever appeared on Broadway. Garrison said he was headed to New York City to attend an intensive week of song and acting and the result will be joining the Broadway cast. He has also advanced to the Atlanta tryout of X Factor.

Deonta “Bree” Bowden said she is majoring in biochemistry and is steering toward becoming a doctor. “Greer Idol was kind of on my bucket list of things to do,” Bree said.

• Nancy Henry so overwhelmed the judges no comments were offered. “I was ready to cut loose, too,” Henry said.

• Tiffany Abercrombie said her first year as a jailer at Greenville County’s detention center was tough. “But the last three were good.” Her love for singing brought her to Greer Idol tryouts.

• The judges liked Jeff Laughter’s black hat but not his voice, as they didn’t vote him forward.

• David Preston was advised by the judges not to wear a hat to the next audition. Preston decided to enter Greer Idol from watching Moonlight Movies and attending Tunes on Trade.
