A new study just released by the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, reports that the BMW Group has a $16.6 billion annual impact on the state economy. Its presence in South Carolina supports more than 30,000 jobs throughout the state.
The study found that for every job created at the Greer plant, an additional three jobs are created elsewhere in South Carolina through the economic multiplier effect.

A new BMW model, X7, confirmed by Sen. Lindsey Graham, and additional significant expansion is scheduled to be announced Friday at 1 p.m. by BMW Group at the Greer manufacturing plant.
The SC Inland Port (SCIP) in Greer received the Economic Development Impact Award at the Upstate Alliance's annual meeting.
The annual award recognizes a public or private sector project that strengthens the Upstate business climate and enhances the area's marketability to prospective industry, resulting in an overall positive impact to the economic development efforts of the region.

"Greer Goes Global" will held indoors on the second floor at Greer City Hall Saturday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The festival is free and food vendors wil be selling food and beverages.
The BMW Charity Pro-Am Celebrity Walk of Fame, a red carpet event, is scheduled Thursday May 15, 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. on Main Street in front of the Courtyard Greenville downtown.
Tournament celebrities greet fans, take photos and participate in interviews. Actor and comedian Gary Valentine will emcee the event, which is free to the public.
The Bacon Brothers will headline the BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament’s celebrity concert
Actor Kevin Bacon and award-winning composer for film and television Michael Bacon will perform Friday, May 16, on the outdoor stage at the Peace Center.
BMW officials are expected to announce substantially increased vehicle production and possibly another expansion at the Greer manufacturing plant next week. The expansion would include hundreds of more jobs.
Greer’s Inland Port could also benefit from the increased Norfolk Southern rail traffic and the BMW warehouse adjacent to the port could also be affected by the announcement.
BMW Group has scheduled a significant announcement to take place at the Greer plant on Friday, March 28.
The importance is underlined by a host of speakers including BMW Group Chairman Norbert Reithofer, Manfred Erlacher, President BMW Manufacturing, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzer.
Greer’s X will mark the spot at the New York International Auto Show beginning April 16.
Coming to NYC are the Greer BMW manufactured X4 Sports Activity Coupe in its world debut, the updated X3 and the Concept X5 eDrive.
BMW confirmed Wednesday the all-new BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupe, what automobile media has been reporting as a smaller sibling similar to the X6. The X4 is debuting for the first time in public at the Geneva Auto Show.
The Greer plant is manufacturing the X4 and it’s being offered in showrooms this spring. U.S. versions, offering a choice of two turbo engines, combine the performance and capability of a sports-activity vehicle with coupe styling, according to BMW’s announcement.
The Greer-produced X3 help up February sales of BMW brand vehicles, the company announced on the eve of the Geneva Auto Show. The new X4, which is being produced at the Greer plant, makes its debut at the auto show beginning Thursday.
X3 sports activity vehicles sales vaulted 51.8 percent, 3,301 vehicles last month, while sales of BMW and MINI brands fell 4.4 percent compared to the same month last year. The X1 also had high February sales, 57.2 percent, 2,329 vehicles, compared to last year at this time.
