U.S. Senator Tim Scott announced the nominations of 50 South Carolina students, including five from Greer-area schools, to the U.S. Military Service Academies for the class of 2020.
William Metcalf (Blue Ridge High School) and AnnaLeigh Runion (Greer Middle College Charter HS) were nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy, Autumn Shea (Riverside HS), Adam Barnette (Blue Ridge HS) for the U.S. Military Academy and Eric Avalos (Greer HS) for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Kelsi Davis signed a soccer grant-in-aid Tuesday to play at Spartanburg Methodist College in the fall.
Davis has played at Greer High School and on elite travel teams for the Carolina Football Club in Spartanburg. She started her first three years at Greer and elected not to play her senior year with the Yellow Jackets.
The 10th Annual Spartanburg versus Greenville FCA All-Star Basketball Challenge for high school senior boys and girls players will be held at Dorman High School on Saturday.
The girls game is 6 p.m. and the boys game at 8.
Several Greer High School art students won awards at the PTSA Reflections contest at the state level.
Michaelyn Russell, Art Club president, won Outstanding Interpretation of Theme for South Carolina and her drawing,
"Where the Magic Begins," will compete in the national PTSA reflections contest in May.

Tyreek Donaldson, an offensive lineman with Greer High School, signed a national letter-of-intent Tuesday to play football at Fairmont State.
Interestingly, Donaldson listed West Virginia University as his favorite team before the season, and will be playing at Fairmont, W. Va.
