CBL Charitable Foundation has awarded $10,000 higher education scholarships to three local students.
Greer High School seniors Candace Jensen and Victoria Schneider were both winners of the 2107 Robert F. Williams Scholarship, named for a past CBL Board Chairman and member of the South Carolina State Board of Education. Jensen will attend the University of Georgia, while Schneider will attend Clemson University.
The Greater Greer Education Foundation awarded $13,000 in scholarships to 13 students from six high schools in the Greater Greer area Tuesday afternoon at Greer City Hall.
Students were selected by the guidance department of each school and submitted to the Foundation. The Foundation in turn will present scholarship funds to the technical school or college on behalf of the student.
Former Greer High School Principal Marion Waters was honored Wednesday night as the school's Commons/Cafeteria was officially named “Marion Waters Commons”.
Waters, who was the principal at Greer High School for 22 years until his retirement last year, was on hand with family and friends.
Greer High School junior Richie Saddler saved one of his best jumps for the right place and time as he won the Class AAAA State triple jump competition Saturday at Spring Valley High School.
Saddler's leap of 45-feet 5-inches was almost a foot better than the second-place finisher. Saddler also took fourth place in the 400 meter run.
Five athletes from the Greer High School boys and girls track and field teams qualified for the state Class AAAA track and field championships.
They compete at the state championships Friday and Saturday at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.
