The 13th Annual Cypress Internal Medicine Oyster Roast (shrimp boil and pig pickin’), might look a little different this year. The Leadership Greer Class XXXVII has adopted the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce’s annual event to benefit their class project, Play it Forward.
The event will be held on Friday, February 24th from 6-9pm at 113 Berry Ave in Greer. Guests can expect live music, a silent auction, and of course all the oysters, shrimp and bbq you can eat. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased from the Greer Chamber of Commerce (www.greerchamber.com). For more information regarding event sponsorships, please contact Alison Rauch at [email protected].
Each year, the Leadership Greer Class is charged with a project to benefit the community. This year’s class was inspired to learn that Greer is an industrious community in both past, present and future. The Greer Police Department has identified neighborhoods that are in distress and presented evidence that a key factor in gang recruitment are youths that lack opportunity and other recreational activities. This motivated the class to choose a project that would help this effort – the revitalization of the community playground and recreation area serving 35-40 children from low-income families at the Greer Housing Authority complex located at 220 Biblebrook Drive, Greer, SC.
With a goal of raising $40k, the funds for this project will go toward:
- Adding play surfacing material to the existing main playset & swing-set
- Installing lighting for safety
- Installation of new play equipment & basketball court
- Provide a picnic shelter & benches for family gatherings
