December 25, 2017 - Russell E. Hudson, Jr., 83, passed away December 25, 2017.

A native of Columbus, Mississippi, son of the late Russell E. Hudson, Sr. and Eva Byrd Fraser Hudson, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a retired employee of Toyota Material Handling USA and a former employee of Nissan North America (Industrial Div.) 

Russell was a former resident of Peachtree City, GA for 45 plus years and a member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church. 

He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Mississippi in Oxford MS and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and an avid Ole Miss football fan.

Robert "Bob" Page Somers

Robert "Bob" Page Somers, 83, widower of Angeline (Ms. Angie) Newell Somers peacefully passed away December 28, 2017.

Bob grew up in Culpeper, VA, surrounded by a loving family where he discovered his love for flying.

After serving in the Army Bob settled down in Greer, SC where he married the love of his life, raised his 2 children and enjoyed a 40-year career flying for Steven?s Aviation.

Bob was an avid tennis player, always looking for a match either for fun or as the captain of a team. He would spend his mornings at the tennis courts followed by a workout at SSI and then enjoy a meal with his friends.

Bob was completely dedicated to his family, friends and faith.

He had a great love for his "fly boys", tennis buddies, church friends, grandkids and life overall.

Bob touched many lives through his charming ways, kind smile and love for all. He will be greatly missed.

Billy Eugene Cobb

December 28, 2017 - Billy Eugene Cobb, 84, passed away December 28, 2017.

A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Claude Herman and Annie Alberta Craft Cobb, he was a retired employee of M. Lowenstein and a member of Wellford Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marian Watterson Cobb of the home; a son, Kenneth Eugene Cobb of Greer; a daughter, Patricia Cobb Landis (Laurin Landis) of Greer; two sisters, Betty Campbell (James) of Landrum and Linda Pittman (Layton) of Lyman; and six grandchildren, Joseph, Andrew, Garrett, Jarred, Jacob and Grace.

Mr. Cobb was predeceased by two brothers, Bobby Cobb and Doug Cobb.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. David Cobb and Rev. Carl Poole. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 12-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at The Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

She was a dedicated school teacher and taught at Wade Hampton High School, Riverside High School and then taught for 30 plus years at Greer High School.

A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Laurens Eugene and Ina Gertrude Drummond Wright, he was a retired employee of Community Cash, a U.S. Army WWII Veteran and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Mr. Wright was a member of Greer Lions Club, and was Lion of the Year 1991 - 1992 and a Melvin Jones Fellow 2013 - 2014.

A native of Greer, son of the late Earl and Ethel Pittman and reared by W.H. and Margie Pittman, he was a retired United Methodist Minister where he served in Sandy Springs, Chester, Pisgah-Mt. Pleasant, Fairlawn (Columbia), Concord, Ehrhardt, Fairfax, Dunean, Triune, Stephenson Memorial, Covenant, Woods Chapel, Gray Court and Trinity (Laurens).

Dr. Pittman was the Conference Director of Congregational Development.

Martha Eloise Henderson Smith

December 17, 2017 - Martha Eloise Henderson Smith, 94, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 peacefully at home.

Born February 5, 1923 in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hammett Henderson and Marjorie Lavella Huff Henderson.

Eloise was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church and volunteered to supply flower arrangements for church services and also for members in the hospitals, nursing homes, or those who were homebound.

She was Volunteer of the Year at Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Greer Garden Club and the Homemakers Club. She won various awards for her roses and rose arrangements.

She was employed by Sherwin-Williams Paint Company as a bookkeeper and during WWII, worked at the Pentagon.

She loved to sew and to garden and continued to garden past her 90s. She enjoyed donating antique family items to the Greer Heritage Museum.

William "Bill" Alex Hudson

December 13, 2017 - William "Bill" Alex Hudson, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Born July 9, 1935, in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late Elijah Lee Hudson and Daisy Parnell Hudson.

A 1953 graduate of North Charleston High School, Bill was a gifted athlete. He played football, basketball, and track in high school and was selected to play in the South Carolina Shrine Bowl as well as the North-South All Star game.

The youngest of five boys, he followed in the footsteps of his older brothers and attended Clemson University on an athletic scholarship for football.

While in college, he played in the 1957 Orange Bowl and was selected to play in the National East-West All Star game and the North-South All Star game.

He was also a member of the South Carolina and Clemson Athletic Halls of Fame.

Bill was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals in 1957 in the second round. Instead of playing there, he chose to double his salary and play for the Canadian Football League.

During his off-season, he continued to work on his education and graduated from Clemson University with an Education Degree in 1959.

While in Canada, he played for the Montreal Allouettes for three years. In 1961, he played for the San Diego Chargers where he was a member of the "Fearsome Foursome Defensive Line". He was selected as team captain along with Jack Kemp from 1961-1963 and was a member of the 1961 Pro Bowl team.

Bill finished his pro-football career in 1964 with the Boston Patriots. He worked as a professional scout for Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders for 17 years.

In 1970, he started Puritan Industrial Maintenance which later would become Diversco, Inc. The company was a leader in the industrial cleaning, security and staffing business which grew to employ over 5400 employees throughout 16 states.

Bill's community accomplishments include: co-founder of the Spartanburg County Touchdown Club, elected "'Entrepreneur of the Year" for the State of South Carolina, and over the years he helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for numerous charities including: YMCA, Boy Scouts, Spartanburg Regional, Clemson University and established the Hudson Family Clemson Football Position Endowment Scholarship.

Bill and Lillian were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Primetime Sunday School Class and the Men's Club.
