Ports Authority to build operations center on BMW's Greer campus

Published on Wednesday, February 18, 2015

A site operations center has been approved by the South Carolina Ports Authority to be built on the BMW campus in Greer.

BMW leases the industrial site from the SCPA, and as the landowner SCPA will manage the construction process of the facility, according to the announcement made in Charleston. The project is estimated to be completed in the first quarter of 2016.

The announcement follows BMW's news of its exported vehicles from the Port of Charleston valued at $9.2 billion, making it the largest automobile exporter in the United States.

The Inland Port continued rail volume increases, which reached an all-time high in monthly rail lifts in January, according to SCPA officials. The Inland Port handled 5,068 rail moves last month, and 30,495 rail lifts completed fiscal year to date.
