Blount advances to 'America's Got Talent' semifinals

Benton Blount has advanced to the semifinals of "America's Got Talent" when he survived by the fan's vote, taken during 30 minutes of tonight's episode.

"I feel like I just had a heart attack," Blount said, after hearing the voting result. Blount received about 38 percent of the vote when the three contestants' tallies were shown together. He was leading from the beginning.

Semifinalists compete next week and the finalists in two weeks. A $1 million prize and a performance in Las Vegas goes to the winner.

Benton Blount, who announced he and his wife, Ashley, were expecting their second child, had another stirring performance Tuesday night on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”.

Blount’s performance to “Fight Song”, a hit by Rachel Platten, got resounding cheers and applause from the audience at Radio City Music Hall.

“That’s the perfect song for you. It will carry you all the way to the finals,” Heidi Klum, a judge said. Judge Howie Mandel said Blount “deserves to make it to the finals.” That countered Judge Mel B who disagreed with Klum’s comments.

“It’s awesome to perform every round for two. Now I’m performing for three,” Blount said during his video introduction before his performance. Blount’s wife and son, Jaxon, 2, were in attendance.

Fan voting continues here until 7 a.m. Wednesday. The 11 contestants will be trimmed to five finalists on Wednesday's 8 p.m. show.

Semifinalists compete next week and the finalists in two weeks. A $1 million prize and a performance in Las Vegas go to the winner.
