City Council approves three rezoning ordinances for Gibbs Shoals development

A 36-unit housing project at East Suber Road and Gibbs Shoals Road received a boost from City Council tonight when it approved three of four annexation and property rezoning requests on second and final reading.

A fourth rezoning request for a small parcel was tabled. A former investor in the property died last November leaving the legal ownership to be remedied.

The homes will range from 2,500 to 3,000 square feet. Prices, although still to be announced, is likely to be $250,000 - $350,000, according to Paul Harrison of Blue Waters Civil Design. The patio-type homes will be on 7,000 square foot lots.

Approved 6-0 on second and final reading (Lee Dumas absent):

• Annexation of property owned by Foothills Presbytery at East Suber Road and Gibbs Shoals Road and established a zoning classification of R-5 (garden court or patio house).

• An ordinance to change the zoning classification of property owned by Randy Brewer at East Suber Road and Gibbs Shoals Road to R-5 (residential, multifamily).

• An ordinance to change the zoning classification of property owned by Randy Brewer at East Suber Road and Gibbs Shoals Road to R-5 (patio homes).

• Tabled 6-0 the second and final reading of an ordinance to annex property owned by Bloste Madden, located at 1770 Gibbs Shoals Road. A signer of the property died last November and the estate is in probate.

• Approved 6-0 on the first reading of property owned by Bobby Sims at 104 Francis Street from C-2 (commercial) to C-3 (highway commercial).  Property is occupied by an automobile repair and service shop. Sims is retiring and is seeking new zoning to better able to sell the property.
