Obituary
Doris Lurean Riddle, a native of Greer who shared one of the longest recorded marriages, died Friday. She was 90.
Doris is survived by her husband of 72 years, John Wallace Riddle.
There’s little data available for couples who celebrated their platinum (70 years) anniversary and longer. David Drozd, a researcher for the U.S. Census Bureau, reported that 0.01 percent had been married for 70 years.
A study of 1,152 couples who had been married for over 50 years found that they attributed their long marriages to faith in each other, love, ability to make concessions, admiration for each other, reliance on each other, children, and strong communication.
Riddle’s legacy includes two sons, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
