Jimmy Vereen and his stepfather, Harvey Scruggs, were enjoying the afternoon at Kids Planet in Century Park Tuesday. Vereen was watching his son, Jaylen, 4, play while discussing this weekend’s NCAA Final Four men’s and women’s basketball tournament. Vereen is a graduate of North Greenville College where he played linebacker.

Vereen is a distant relative of actor, dancer and singer Ben Vereen. “We had a family reunion at Atlantic Beach when I was 12-13 years old and he was there,” said Jimmy. “He was very nice and funny.”

Here’s Jimmy’s take on this weekend’s Final Four.

Q: Who are you picking to win?

A: I wanted North Carolina but since they’re out I wouldn’t mind seeing Kentucky win.

Q: Are you watching any one player in the finals?

A: There’s no one star player who is a standout in the Final Four. I think all the teams are more athletic this year and don’t have a superstar.

Q: How did you like the way the games were presented on four different channels?

A: I liked it. It gave everyone a chance to see who they wanted to play. I think it worked out pretty well.

Q: Do you have a favorite women’s team?

A: I liked Tennessee until they got beat. They didn’t play well the game before. But Pat Summitt got on them at halftime and got them to bump it up a little.
