A 3-year-old Greer boy is in critical condition at Greer Memorial Hospital as a result of an accidental shooting Monday evening.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to the Greer hospital at 6:30 p.m. in reference to the gunshot victim.

During the course of investigation, investigators learned that the incident occurred at 1896 New Bruce Road, after the child retrieved a firearm from inside of a vehicle before accidentally discharging the firearm, according to GCSO Lt. Ryan Flood.

The child was struck and was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to the report. At this time, the incident appears to be accidental, however the investigation is ongoing and further information will be released once readily available, Flood reported.
