The Children's Ride and Run made its debut at the 2010 Greer Memorial Hospital Freedom Blast. The event is back for 2011 with a new route on Saturday.
The bicycle decorating contest judging is 6:15 p.m. Friday. Judging gives children in the upstate an opportunity to display their patriotic pride. Winners will be announced at the end of the race on Saturday.
Children ages 6-12 are invited to bring their bicycles and running shoes to the Greer Memorial Hospital campus on Saturday for two races. Registration is 7:30 a.m., 8 a.m. is age the 6-9 race and 8:30 is the 10-12 race.
Two age groups (6-9 and 10-12) will take to the course for a ride/run combo. All registrants will receive a complimentary water bottle and a medal for finishing the race. Registration is $5 per participant at the Greer Memorial Hospital campus at 830 S. Buncombe Road from 4-7 p.m. Friday and before the Ride and Run on Saturday.
Winners of the decorating contest and race will be announced at the end of races Saturday.
