Greer's Coker honors great-grandfather, participates in 75th Anniversary of D-Day

Greer native, Pfc. Gavin Coker, is part of a select group of service members participating in the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

Coker, who is serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team can be seen in the this video speaking about his participation in D-Day 75 commemorations as well as his great-grandfather participating in Operation Overlord.

More than 1,300 U.S. Service members partnered with 950 troops from across Europe and Canada have converged in northwestern France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the WWII Allied Invasion of Normandy, commonly known as D-Day.

Upwards of 80 ceremonies in 40 French communities in the region will take place between June 1-9 the apex being held June 6 at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mere.
