Tickets are on sale for the City of Greer’s 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration Luncheon scheduled Jan. 16 at the Events Center at Greer City Hall. The event is an annual sellout.

The keynote speaker is Rev. Curtis L. Johnson, senior pastor of Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church in Pelzer in 1993. A native of Greenville, Johnson served in the United States Air Force for four years and earned his Master of Divinity Degree from Gardner-Webb University. He founded MLK Dream Weekend, a community-wide celebration for the King Holiday that has, over the past decade, drawn more than 17,000 participants and raised more than $500,000 in scholarship funds.

He also is the organizer of the Upstate Live in Peace Movement, which grew from the Greenville Alliance for Change initiative and WJMZ-FM (107.3 JAMZ). The movement promotes nonviolence, enhancing relationships between law enforcement and community, and overcoming racism.

Live music, multimedia presentations, and awards to those who give back to the Greer community in the spirit of King will be presented.
