An interesting competition is taking place at Greer Idol 6.

Lauren and Jeremy McCall, a married couple, are competing with both getting good reviews from the judges panel during tonight’s second round. The song selection was from the ‘70s and ‘80s rock era. Lauren sang “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and Jeremy sang “Don’t Stop the Rain”.

Both are former music pastors. “We sing a lot together and support each other during the competition,” Jeremy said. They videoed each other tonight and Jeremy said they would talk about each other’s performances.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to make new friends,” Jeremy said. “We know it’s a voting contest and our votes will be split with all our friends.”

The couple is frequently invited to sing at churches. They were invited to Spring Well last week.

Three singers will be trimmed next week from the 11 who sang tonight. The remaining eight will perform next Saturday at Freedom Blast.  Their music selection must be patriotic and come from the country genre.

Ammadezia Styles was stylish wearing a black dress with orange earrings and an orange arm sleeve, as she sang “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar. Doug Allen, last year’s runner-up, was briefly distracted but maintained his poise, as he was impressive performing “Bad Case of Loving You" by Robert Palmer.

Six men and five women comprise the field. The final eight candidates will be announced Tuesday.

Greer Idol Teen, with Jonathan Harper the only male remaining, will cut one from its seven-person field.

Greer Teen Idol is at 5 p.m. next Saturday at City Park, Greer Idol at 6 p.m. and Whitney Walters and Groove Planet of Greenville will perform at 7:45 p.m. A multimedia presentation to the military is at 9:45 p.m. and the 15-minute Freedom Blast fireworks is at 10 p.m.
