North Greenville?s run in NCAA playoffs ends at Delta State

North Greenville University’s run in its first foray in the NCAA Division II football playoffs ended today when Delta State eliminated the Crusaders 28-23.

Delta State’s Richard Freelon scored three rushing touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, to lead the Statesmen to a come from behind win over North Greenville in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals.Freelon had 130 yards on 23 carries and quarterback Micah Davis was 19-26 for 192 yards for Delta, which has reached the NCAA playoffs 15 times.

North Greenville was led by senior quarterback Willy Korn who went 14-24 for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and had a team best 56 yards rushing in his final collegiate game.  The former Byrnes High and Clemson player culminated his career at NGU with a 20-6 mark, a NCCAA Victory Bowl championship and today’s playoff game 

Korn connected with Taylor Malphrus, Sean Wright, and Freddie Martino for touchdowns.  Delta was the first team to not allow NGU a rushing touchdown this season.

Winston-Salem 27, New Haven 7 

Wayne State (Mich.) 31, Minnesota-Duluth 25

Semifinals Saturday, Dec. 10

Delta State (11-2) vs. Pittsburg State (11-1)

Winston-Salem (13-0) vs. Wayne State (13-1)

Championship Saturday, Dec. 17 At Braly Municipal Stadium Florence, Ala.
