Doctors Caio Rocha Lima and Melanie Thomas have joined the Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute to help expand and grow clinical trial offerings to pharmaceutical industry trials in the Upstate.
Lima will serve as Medical Director for Medical Oncology and Associate Center Director for Translational Research. He received his medical degree and completed his residency in Brazil. Lima received his fellowship in hematology oncology from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Ron Demonet, managing director of Veteran Scholarships Forever (VSF), has created an endowed scholarship fund at Greenville Technical College. The fund’s purpose is to allow veterans and their spouses to re-enter the workforce and thus provide for their families.
Scott Perry, an Army veteran discharged in 2012, is the inaugural recipient. Perry, a Greenville Technical College Health Sciences student, is studying to become a nurse or physician’s assistant.
Nurse Kelli Clune saw a need in the Spartanburg community for forensic nurses and made it happen. Because of her work, she was awarded the “Bill Barnet Service Above Self Award.”
“I was shocked, amazed and humbled,” Clune said. “I don’t see what I do as extraordinary, I just saw a need and started doing it.”
