Noah Hannon had a busy week heading into Greer’s final regular season football game versus rival Blue Ridge.
Blue Ridge High School will play at South Aiken in the first round of the Class AAAA football playoffs on Nov. 18.
The Tigers lost their final regular season game last Friday at Greer High School.
Greer High School held its Spirit Week that concluded Saturday night with the Sadie Hawkins dance.
The $20,140 raised was just over the goal set by the senior class.
Greer turned three Blue Ridge turnovers into Yellow Jackets touchdowns and a 49-6 final regular season Region II-AAAAA victory Friday on Senior Night at Dooley Field.
Trey Houston passed for five touchdowns and Greer’s defense held Blue Ridge to minus 23 yards on 30 rushes. It’s the second time this season Greer has held its opponent to minus rushing yards – the first time versus Clinton with - 82 yards.
Union County beat Greer, 42-28, Friday night in a Region II-AAAA football game at Union.
Brandon Thompson threw five touchdown passes, four to Shi Smith, and Union County built a 21-0 lead with 10:50 remaining the first half to turn back Greer.
Noah Hannon is among the five finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football award.
Hannon, offensive lineman for Greer, has also been selected to play for South Carolina in the Carolinas Shrine Bowl game. The game will be played at Dec. 17 at Gibbs Field at Wofford College.
Greenville beat No. 7-ranked Greer 35-14 at Greenville’s Sirrine Stadium Friday night. Greenville is 6-2 overall and Greer fell to 5-3.
Greenville’s Davis Beville threw three touchdown passes. He connected with Tydricus Hellams for a 55-yard touchdown in the second quarter and a 43-yard score in the third quarter. Beville also hooked up with Joe Christian on a 6-yard scoring toss in the fourth quarter.
Greer won its fifth straight game and the No. 7-ranked Yellow Jackets remained unbeaten in Region 2-AAAA beating Eastside 43-20 at John Carlisle Stadium in Taylors Friday night.
Quay White and Dre Williams dazzled with long touchdown runs and averaged 13 yards per rush, and quarterback Trey Houston threw a touchdown pass and caught one to lead Greer’s scoring. The Yellow Jackets averaged 9.7 yards per play.
Emma Cornell was crowned Greer High School 2016 Homecoming Queen Friday night at Dooley Field.
Quarterback Trey Houston threw for four touchdowns and Drew Williams ran for two more scores as Greer won its fourth straight football game, beating Travelers Rest, 55-21, at Dooley Field Friday night.
It was homecoming for the No. 8 ranked Class AAAA Yellow Jackets and Travelers Rest was the perfect guest. Greer High School classes of 1961 and 1964 were honored.
It was both teams’ Region II opening game.
Greer accumulated 512 total yards and TR had 304 yards.
