On July 1, 2023, Harold Samuel Hastings "Sammy" 78, devoted husband, father, and friend passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family and his precious wife of almost 59 years, Charlotte.
Sammy was a native of Greenville, South Carolina. Born on December 16, 1944, he was a son of the late Harold Hartwell and Myrtle Dill Hastings.
Sammy never met a stranger, a true conversationalist at heart, he spoke of his service as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, and the unwavering support of his family often.
Upon returning from service, he founded H & S Textiles, where he worked alongside his father, father-in-law, and son for over 25 years. After closing his family business, he worked for the Caterpillar Corporation until his retirement in 2015.
On any given day of his well-deserved retirement, you could find Sammy and Charlotte hard at work in the garden with their dog, Bella.
He was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church of Greer, South Carolina, where proudly served as deacon. It was one of his greatest joys to sing in the choir on Sunday, even hours after the service you could find his humming his favorite hymns.
After his courageous course with cancer, it can be said of Sammy along with the Apostle Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course."
The love that Sammy had for the Lord and his family is beyond measure and will
continue to be seen through those who were deeply blessed to know him.
