The Riverside Warriors lost to Wade Hampton, 70-54, in a boys basketball game at Riverside High School Friday evening.
Wade Hampton got 32 points from the duo of Preston Parks (18) and Michael Wiper (14) to beat host Riverside at the Warriors gymnasium Friday. Alan Caldwell scored 19 points for Riverside to record a game-high scorer and teammate Kameron Small added 13 points.
Thirty-one students have been nominated to attend the U.S. Service Academies. The nominees now compete to receive an appointment directly from the service academy.
“Each of these young men and women has already contributed so much to their communities. It is my privilege to nominate these outstanding students to attend one of our service academies," Rep. Trey Gowdy (S.C. – 4) said. "Their commitment to serving this country should be inspiring to us all.”
Spartanburg placed three players in double digits and cruised to a Region II-4A basketball game over the Riverside Warriors Friday night at Spartanburg High School.
Mike Murphy scored a game-high 23 points for Spartanburg and teammates Tay Stevenson and Isaccac Sims 16 and 12, respectively. Myles Smith led Riverside with 11 points, the only player to score in double figures.
Riverside Middle School students Janusz Schenk, Noah Leonard, Zach Clawson, Alex Wesolowski and Devin Terpenning were picked along with 29 other Greenville County Schools middle and high school students to participate in Discovery Flight, a program that includes 45 minutes of ground instruction and a 45-minute flight.
The program targets students who are interested in a career in aviation and would like to find out more about the requirements. This learning opportunity is sponsored by The Greenville Downtown Airport and Airwolf Aviation Services.
The Greater Greer Education Foundation presented $16,550 in grant money to 15 school and community projects in Greenville and Spartanburg counties at a news conference Tuesday at Greer City Hall.
The grants, made possible by funds from the October 2013 Education Gala, ranged from $400 to $1,500.
Riverside fell two games below .500 when Mauldin beat the Warriors, 68-56, Friday at Riverside High School. It was Mauldin’s first region victory.
The Warriors are 6-8 overall and 1-5 in Region II-4A. Mauldin is 7-5 overall and 1-5 in the region.

Riverside Middle School
Gaffney took the measure of Riverside, 79-47, in a boys basketball game Tuesday night at Riverside.
L.J. Peak scored a game-high 31 points for Gaffney and teammate Hyleck Foster added 16. Alan Caldwell led Riverside with 16 points and Kameron Small contributed 11.
Riverside and Eastside high school booster clubs are competing in the inaugural Rock The Sides Oyster Roast and BBQ on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 7 – 11 p.m.
Both communities will be vying to sell the most tickets to the fundraiser to support each school’s athletics program. Tickets are for adults only.
Dorman kept its unbeaten Region II-4A record intact with a 72-46 win over the Riverside Warriors Friday night.
Myles Smith scored 11 points to lead Riverside. Dorman’s duo of J. J. Arcega-Whiteside and Quantex Brown scored a combined 48 points, 25 by Whiteside and 23 by Brown.
Riverside Middle School 7th grade Social Studies students spent the week before winter break reviewing material from 1st semester and completing an Art in History Project about the French Revolution — a Limoges style box called a tabatiere.
