3 Greer standouts to be inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

Chandler Hash and Daniel Palka will join the Greer High School Athletic Hall of Fame in ceremonies Friday at halftime of the Emerald-Greer football game at Dooley Field.

Carlton Greene, who retired last season after coaching Greer basketball teams for 25 years, will be inducted as an honorary member of the Hall of Fame.

Chandler Hash, 2006-2010

Hash, a 4-year varsity letterman, 2006-2010, had a breakout senior season (2009-10, averaging 24.2 points a game and leading Greer to a 15-1 record. He was named to the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association AAA team in his junior and senior seasons.

Hash’s highlights include:

• Junior all-region and co-player of the year.

• Has school record for three-pointers, 10.

• Tied school record for points in a game, 43.

• Senior was Region III player of the year, North-South All-Star team member, nominated to McDonald’s All-America team.

• Totaled 1,909 points.

• At Anderson University he twice made first-team all-conference, ranked No 3 nationally in three-point field goal percentage, is third all-time leading scorer with 1,537 points, 778 points in 2014 remains most scored in a season, 2013-2014 Reese’s Division II College All-Star, NCAA Division II honorable mention All-American, and named Anderson’s Male Athlete of the Year. 

Daniel Palka, 2006-2010

Palka was a five-year varsity player for the baseball Yellow Jackets. He threw two no-hitters, and had a career 1.86 earned run average.

Palka’s other highlights included:

• .470 battering average, 14 home runs and 32 runs batted in, season.

• 4 times named All-Region III, twice to All-State, selected to Rawlings & Under Armour All-American teams in 2010.

• Entered Georgia Tech after turning down Philadelphia Phillies as a 19th round draft pick in 2010,

• At Georgia Tech, Palka was a three-year letterman (2011, 2012, 2013), first team All-America and All ACC in 2013.

• Drafted by Arizona Diamondbacks in third round of Major League Baseball Draft, led Midwest League in home runs (22) in 2014, selected California League All Star this year for the Visalia Rawhide (.280 average, 95 runs scored, 143 hits, 29 home runs, 90 RBI).

Coach Carlton Greene

• Greene produced 10 All-Star players and 32 All-Region in 25 years of coaching – 9 with jayvee boys, 16 with varsity girls.

• Varsity girls qualified for state playoffs 13 times.

• 254-127 record with varsity girls winning three Peach Blossom Tournament championships.

• Head coach for North/South All-Star game in 2014 and assistant coach in 2009.

• Three-time region coach of the year, 2014 team reached Upper State finals.
