Chon, a Thai cuisine restaurant, is opening in the first quarter of 2017.
Pad Thai, said Doh King, owner and chef of Chon, is a popular Thai food.
Chon will be located in the former Greer Station Diner at 219 Trade Street, next door to GreerToday.com
“Chon means spoon in the Thai language and most Thai people use a spoon for eating more than anything else,” said owner and chef Doh King. She referenced a segment featured on “The Big Bang Theory” where Sheldon talks about Thai food and chopsticks.
Doh has owned Thai restaurants in the past and took a few years off to begin a family.
The restaurant will feature tables and chairs, with seating for 70 when it opens. The décor will feature a new paint scheme with the interior decorated in a Thai fusion style.
Doh said Pad Thai appears the most popular dish in the market. “My favorite is Pad Ke Mow and Panang Curry,” Doh said.
Chon will serve beer and wine but not liquor, Doh said.
“We're still trying to decide on the days we will be open, but we are planning to be open for lunch five days a week and dinner six days a week,” Doh said. The hours of operation will be decided later.
Doh and her husband, Eric, have visited downtown often, during festivals and “We ate dinner downtown often and enjoyed it,” she said. We noticed that there were no Thai restaurants in Greer and are hopeful it will go over well here.”
Thai cuisine is one of the most popular in the world.
