Riverside’s first game back from a week off didn’t turn out so well.

Christ Church beat the Riverside Warriors 27-14 in a non-region game Friday night at the Reservation.

Riverside fell to 2-2 while Christ Church (2-3) is within one game of .500.

Christ Church held Riverside to minus 59 yard rushing. Warriors quarterbacks Andrew Brown and Logan DiBenedetto could do little for most of the game.

DiBenedetto threw his first pass for an 80-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to narrow Christ Church’s lead to 14-7.

His second TD pass to White for 25 yards pulled Riverside to within seven points of Christ Church again, 21-14 in the third quarter. DiBenedetto passed for 244 yards.

Christ Church’s offense was strong on the ground with Radford Swent running for 104 yards and a touchdown, quarterback Ellis Millwood ran for 97 yards and one TD and Rose Cox added a TD plus 70 more yards rushing.

Riverside attempted a fake punt late in the game but lost 11 yards. Christ Church scored on the first play and the extra point made the final margin, 27-14.

Christ Church turned two Riverside errors in the first half – a muffed punt and an interception – into a Swent 1-yard TD run and an 11-yard scoring run by Millwood.

Jackson Houser was on the receiving end of a 9-yard scoring pass from Millwood.

Riverside will host J.L. Mann next Friday and Christ Church plays home versus Calhoun Falls Charter School.
