Citizens Fire Academy registration is open
The Greer Fire Department has opened registration for the Citizens Fire Academy beginning Sept. 27.

The free eight-week course is designed to introduce participants to the functions and daily operations of the GFD. More information and a link to the application and release form is available at www.cityofgreer.org.

The academy provides both classroom and hands-on training, offering a fun and safe behind-the-scenes look at what is means to be a firefighter. Participants will tour the city’s fire stations and dispatch center, and meet its firefighters and 911 personnel.

Participants will try on personal protective equipment, extinguish a fire, participate on a ride-along, and learn CPR and home fire safety tips.

Class sessions are Thursdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at GPD's Station 2, the training facility located at 1985 Hood Road.

A limited number of applications will be approved for the 2018 Academy. Deadline to apply is Aug. 31.
