Citizens Fire Academy taking applications
The City of Greer Fire Department’s Citizens Fire Academy is a free eight-week course designed to introduce the public to the department’s functions and daily operations.

This year’s 8-week course begins Sept. 25.

Class sessions will be held on Monday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the city’s Greer Fire Department Station 1 at 103 W Poinsett Street with the exception of a couple Saturday sessions held at Station 2, the training facility, located at 1985 Hood Road.

The academy provides both classroom and hands-on training, offering a fun and safe behind-the-scenes look at what is means to be a fire fighter.

Participants will tour the city’s fire stations and dispatch center, meet its firefighters and 911 personnel.  During the course, participants will have a chance to wear personal protective equipment, extinguish a fire and participate on a ride-along, as well as learn CPR and home fire safety tips from professional fire fighters.

All applications need to be filled out and returned to The City of Greer Fire Department, Attention: Julie Hunter, 103 W Poinsett St, Greer, SC or emailed to [email protected] no later than Tuesday, Aug. 1.
