CPW blisters daily, July peak records with energy demand
Coming off one of the hottest summers in South Carolina, Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) customers set two all-time peaks for electric demand.

On July 27 from 5 to 6 p.m., the total system demand was 90.71 megawatt-hours, beating the former peak of 88.08 megawatt-hours set June 30, 2015 by nearly 3 percent.

CPW also set an all-time monthly electric consumption peak of 44,944,216 kilowatt-hours, exceeding the previous peak monthly consumption by 6.15 percent.

July recorded an average daily high of 94 degrees with temperatures reaching at least 90 degrees or higher every day, according to the weather station at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. The 99 degrees on July 3 was the highest ever recorded for that date.

“This demand is a testament to the strong growth in the Greer community as well as the near record temperatures for the month of July,” Jeff Tuttle, Greer CPW General Manager, stated.

“We are confident in meeting future power demand with clean highly reliable energy. Over 90% of our power is carbon free helping sustain the pristine environment of our community,” Tuttle stated.
