CPW warns customers of fraud schemes
A fraud alert has been issued by Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) warning customers of callers attempting to obtain customer account or personal information.

CPW reports customers may receive phone calls from individuals identifying themselves as Greer CPW employees. In some cases, the customer’s caller identification will display Greer CPW’s name or phone number. The caller attempts to obtain customer account or personal information.

Officials at CPW said it does not call customers asking for payment information and advises customers not to give out bank account or credit card numbers.

Scam artists claiming to be Greer CPW employees routinely tell customers they have the ability to wipe out entire account balances – for a cash fee. CPW stresses that no associate from Greer CPW will offer to pay a customer’s bill in exchange for a fee. The Greer utility does not charge extra fees for paying bills online, automated phone systems, by mail or through customers’ online banking services.

CPW has formed a list of fraud prevention tips to protect customers on its website and contact information. Click here or call CPW at 864-848-5500. If you believe the caller is an imposter call the Greer Police Department at 864-848-2151.
