Eastside heads into Upper State semifinals, routs Westwood

Jordan Morgan led Eastside past Westwood and into the Upper State semifinals.

 

 

Eastside continued its run through the Class AAAA playoffs with a 48-15 win over Westwood Friday night.

The Eagles (11-1) play at South Pointe (12-0) next Friday in the Upper State semifinals game. South Pointe eliminated Belton-Honea Path, 45-3.

Quarterback Jordan Morgan had another stellar game with 355 yards passing and 87 yards rushing. He tossed two scoring passes – 14 yards to Daniel Baldwin and three yards to Payton Mangrum.

The Eagles defense held Westwood to 168 total yards. Along the way Eastside recovered two Westwood fumbles, intercepted two passes and sacked quarterback Elijah Heatley three times – twice on one series by defensive end Israel Taylor. Brandon McLoyd recorded the third sack. Jameer Goodman’s 45-yard interception return for a touchdown added to the defensive highlight film. Dondre Thompson recorded the second interception.

Eastside opened with a 14-0 first quarter lead. A high scoring second quarter – Westwood scored its only 15 points to Eastside’s 13 – gave Eastside a 27-15 lead. The Eagles scored 14 points in the third quarter (41-15) and a touchdown in the final period made the final score.
