Greene said Greer girls haven't called it a season yet

Greer’s girls could have folded up their competitiveness and coasted home the final four games of the season. They didn’t win tonight and they didn’t make it easy for visiting Clinton Lady Red Devils.

Clinton won the Region III-3A game, 60-40, that sank Greer one game lower in the win column (4-18 overall and 1-7 in the region) but gained them a lot of respect from Lady Yellow Jackets Head Coach Carlton Green.

“They showed me a lot of heart. I’m pleased with the way we played,” Greene said.

What caught Greene’s attention was the Lady Yellow Jackets stalking Clinton and battling for every loose ball and tying up the Lady Red Devils while battling for loose rebounds and balls.

“We discussed that the season wasn’t over and we didn’t have any pressure the rest of the way. What is important to us is to go out and play hard. They showed a lot of heart and spirit,” Carlton said.

Clinton built a 15-6 first quarter lead but Greer came back with an 18-point second quarter to trail 24-30 at intermission. “We didn’t have an answer for number 32 (Lndya Kinard),” Greene said. Kinard scored 21 points to lead all scorers.

Greer’s Jessica Gay scored 13 points.

“I was pleased to see that we had eight people scoring,” Greene said. Williams was the only person who played for Greer and didn’t score.

Remaining games for Greer are at Union Friday, home on Senior Night vs. Spartanburg Christian Academy on Tuesday and the season finale at Blue Ridge on Thursday, Feb. 9.

Greene said his team continues its mission. “Our goal has always been to get better every game as people and players,” he said.
