Greer, Blue Ridge, Riverside open high school football

A battle between top 10 ranked teams and new beginnings for two other teams highlight the first week of high school football tonight.

All games begin at 7:30 p.m., with the weather at all locations reporting game-time temperatures of 86 degrees with a feel-like 93 degrees. Don’t expect a breeze, winds are forecast 7 miles per hour

Westside beat Greer last year. Tailback Qua White and quarterback Trey Houston lead Greer’s offense. Westside’s defense has only two starters back from last year. Running back Paul Johnson and receiver Traye Carson are two of Westside’s offensive weapons.

Blue Ridge will host Belton-Honea Path. BHP won the regular season and playoff games last year.

Jake Smith, a senior quarterback, will lead Blue Ridge. He has started since his freshman season. Xavier Nance (receiver) and Breeland Sampson (running back) lead BHP’s offense.

Riverside plays at Travelers Rest and one thing is the Warriors can’t afford are injuries. Logan Dibenedetto and Andrew Brown are both junior quarterbacks for Riverside. Brown will double at linebacker and Dibenedetto is the kicker. Riverside won last year’s game, 7-3.
