Greer got off to a near-perfect start to its Region 2-AAA season and cruised to a 39-20 win over Emerald Friday night at Dooley Field.

The third-ranked Yellow Jackets scored two quick first-quarter touchdowns and added a Nick Roberson field goal on their first possession of the second quarter to go up 17-0.

Despite flashes on offense, the Vikings (2-2 overall, 0-1 region) never seriously threatened Greer's lead after that.

Running back Adrian McGee scored on runs of 3, 2 and 43 yards, rushing for a season-high 225 yards on 24 carries. Quarterback Mario Cusano found favorite target Dorian Lindsey on first-half touchdown throws of 32 and 27 yards as the Yellow Jackets remained perfect.

Greer (4-0, 1-0) was able to capitalize on Emerald mistakes as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to their early lead as well as getting off to a perfect start a month into the season.

"It feels good (to be 4-0)," Greer defensive end Travigea Ware said. "We can't give up; we can't slack off. We've got to go full tilt. There's a lot of teams in our region trying to knock us off."

A fumbled snap on a punt attempt set up Greer's first score, a 3-yard touchdown run by McGee, with 8:13 left in the first quarter.

Trailing 14-0, Emerald launched what appeared a drive that ended with Willie Reynolds' 37-yard run up the middle, but Greer defensive back Troy Pride stripped Reynolds of the ball inside the Greer 5-yard-line and recovered the fumble in the end zone for a touchback.

Nine plays later, Roberson connected on a 26-yard field goal to put Greer ahead 17-0 with 8:43 left in the first half.

Emerald answered by going 65 yards and two plays. 

Reynolds, who finished with 190 yards rushing on 23 attempts, scored on a 27-yard touchdown run just 18 seconds after Roberson's field goal, cutting Greer's lead to 17-7.

But the Greer offense continued to seemingly score at will, moving 58 yards in eight plays. The drive was capped by McGee's 2-yard touchdown plunge for a 24-7 lead with 3:56 left in the half.

Reynolds struck again with a 52-yard sprint up the middle to cut the Greer advantage to 24-14 with 2:02 left in the half.

The Vikings would get no closer, giving the Yellow Jackets 35 yards in penalties on the ensuing possession to set up Lindsey's second touchdown reception from Cusano and a 30-14 lead with 1:02 to go before halftime.

Cusano completed 8 of 18 passes for 123 yards and the two touchdowns to Lindsey, who finished with five catches for 96 yards.
