Creative Playscapes, in Matthews, N.C., was awarded low bid of $42,610.92 by City Council Tuesday night for the Parks and Recreation Department project. The second closest bid was nearly $20,000 higher.

The area to be surfaced, approximately 3,900 square-feet, is underneath an existing play structure. The process includes removal and replacement of existing loose fill shredded rubber, felt fabric material, drainage stone and plastic barriers.

Installation of new wear mats for existing slides and climbing apparatus will be included in the construction and cleanup project with an April 18 completion date.

Councilman Wryley Bettis (District 5) made the motion to approve and Kimberly Bookert (District 3) seconded. It passed 6-0, with Judy Albert (District 6) absent.
