Tax free weekend for cars, computers, school supplies ...

STAFF REPORTS
Published on Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Even if you’re not going back to school, you can take advantage of the tax-free weekend Friday beginning at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday ending at midnight. Typical back-to-school items are included (such as paper, notebooks, and pens) as well as other items like computers, clothing, handbags, and even shower curtains.

The exact wording of the law that describes what is tax exempt and a list of examples can be found on the South Carolina Department of Revenue’s website.

Some businesses who sell items not included in the tax-exempt category are getting into the spirit by offering to pay the sales tax themselves, making their items, in essence, tax-free. D & D Ford is one of these businesses, so if you’ve been thinking about getting a new car, now is the time to do it.
